IFAKARA, MOROGORO: District Commissioner for Kilombero, Danstan Kyobya has ordered the wards Community Development Officers (CDO’s) and Village executive officers (VEO’s ) to educate, bring about awareness as well as mobilize the Kilombero residents to participate in a five days programme for people to register and take tests to check on their health for free, a programme that is being coordinated by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
Speaking on 27 August at the Central market in Ifakara Town council, following his visit to the town to check on the implementation of the NHIF programme that includes the free check on diseases such as blood pressure, diabetes, prostate problems, and body mass index.
” I urge the NHIF Regional Manager Mbala Shitindi to take time to thoroughly impart these CDO’s before 30 August so that they will be good teachers and ambassadors in their wards as they are initially and naturally experts in community development” ordered DC Kyobya.
In addition, Kyobya has praised the NHIF for sponsoring and coordinating this programme that has so far helped about 150 people to check and know their health status.
“Many of us doesn’t know our health status, am I wrong?
So, it is important that we check and know so that we could take measure as earlier as possible ” Said the District leader.
In turn, the Morogoro region NHIF Manager Mbala Shitindi has said that in the second day of the programme implementation which is in collaboration with Ifakara Health Center and the Ifakara Town council they have served more than 250 people.

Speaking about the check up, he said they have checked more than 150.
“We found 15 people with diabetes.
151 have blood pressure and 10 with prostate gland problems that requires further examination”.
He added that two people have been founded with lung challenges (respiratory system) while four with heart complications with which they have advised them to go to the advanced hospitals in the district such as St Francis hospital and Good Samaritan cancer hospital for further examination and treatment.
He continues that the service provided will help them identify their problems and it is a preparation for implementation of the Insurance act for all.
