DAR ES SALAAM: AZAM FC’s hopes for a flying start to the season were dashed as they played out a frustrating 0-0 draw with JKT Tanzania at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
The result leaves both teams with a single point from their opening match.
The draw leaves both teams in mid-table, with Azam sitting in ninth place and JKT Tanzania in eleventh.
The result also means that Simba remains at the top of the league with six points.
Azam started the match on the front foot, controlling the game as they looked stronger than JKT Tanzania.
Despite dominating possession, Azam struggled to break down JKT Tanzania’s resolute defence.
JKT, meanwhile, relied on counterattacks to threaten the Azam goal but were unable to capitalise on their chances.
In the 27th minute, Azam thought they had scored when Nassor Saadan finished off a move initiated by Feisal Salum.
However, the goal was disallowed for offside after the assistant referee raised his flag.
JKT Tanzania had a chance in the 18th minute when their midfielder Said Juma fired a direct shot, but Azam’s goalkeeper made a crucial save to deny them the opening goal.
At halftime, the scoreboard remained 0-0 as neither team managed to break the deadlock.
The second half continued with both teams adopting a counter-attacking approach, but neither side could convert their chances into goals.
Despite making several substitutions, both teams failed to find the back of the net and the match ended in a goalless draw.
Both teams will be hoping to bounce back from this disappointing result in their upcoming matches.
JKT Tanzania will face Kagera Sugar at Kaitaba Stadium, while Azam FC will host Simba Sports Club at their home ground.
