Tour operators from across the country have commended the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) for its strategic efforts to upgrade road infrastructure within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, describing the improvements as a significant step forward in enhancing the region’s tourism capacity.
The guides pointed out that by enhancing accessibility, guaranteeing safer transportation, and improving the overall visitor experience, the improvements address long-standing logistical challenges, especially during the busiest tourism season.
Speaking on June 11, 2025, at the Ngorongoro entrance gate, a number of tour operators commended the improvements for greatly cutting down on travel time and enhancing road conditions, particularly in inclement weather.
“We applaud the NCAA for the remarkable improvements made to the road network. It is now much easier and safer to transport guests to Ngorongoro’s major attractions,” said Mohammed Tenga of Zara Tours.
Echoing the sentiment, Walter Temba of Serengeti Smiles Tours emphasised the timeliness of the upgrades, noting their alignment with the sector’s continued growth.
“For years, we have faced major challenges, particularly during the rainy season, when vehicles would frequently get stuck and visitors arrived at the sites already fatigued. The recent upgrades have transformed that experience; roads are now navigable even during rains. We urge that these improvements be maintained as a long-term strategy,” he said.
The road construction is a component of NCAA’s larger plans to handle the expected surge of tourists from June to October, which is customarily the region’s peak season.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area remains one of Tanzania’s most iconic destinations, drawing visitors from across the globe. Between July 2024 and May 2025, the area recorded a total of 972,896 tourist visits, underscoring the critical importance of continued investment in tourism-supporting infrastructure.
