The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, informs the public that the United Nations Secretary-General, H.E. António Guterres, today received a Special Envoy from Tanzania bearing a message from H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The message from HE. President Samia Suluhu Hassan was delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, HE. Ambassador Mahmoud Kombo, who led a Tanzanian delegation to the United Nations.
While receiving the message, the UN Secretary-General underscored Tanzania’s continued standing as “a reference point for peace and social cohesion in Africa and the world.” He further noted that Tanzania’s reputation as an icon of peace was tested during the General Elections held on 29 October 2025, and acknowledged the country’s resilience in maintaining national unity and stability.
The UN Secretary-General expressed the United Nations’ interest in seeing Tanzania continue to remain united and serve as a positive example, and emphasized the importance of a meaningful and inclusive national dialogue aimed at addressing the root causes of the violent incidents that occurred on 29 October 2025, and at putting in place measures to prevent their recurrence.
He also reaffirmed the United Nations full support to Tanzania’s ongoing efforts, including support during and after the completion of the mandate of the Commission of Inquiry established in the United Republic of Tanzania.
